Speaker Bio and Topic Information
David Shea is the Senior Vice President of Engineering for Kraken Robotics, based in Mount Pearl, NL. Mr. Shea has been managing the design, production and operation of underwater robots in the
United States and Canada for over 12 years. He has led field teams on sea trials all over the world, and was deploying Kraken’s sonar technologies for the discovery of the HMS Erebus during the
2014 Franklin Expedition and during the Raise of the Arrow Expedition in 2017 (resulting in the discover of 2 of 9 Avro Arrow models). Previously, he was the Engineering Manager at Marine
Robotics Inc, as well as being the lead design engineer for the SQX-500 AUV. Mr. Shea holds a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria.
Topic: An overview of Kraken's Ocean Supercluster Initiative
Kraken is one of the founding members of Canada’s Ocean Supercluster (OSC), and is proud to be leading the first approved project under the OSC initiative, entitled “OceanVision”. Kraken’s
OceanVision project is a 3-year program, which began in June 2019, and seeks to leverage unmanned robotics, high resolution sensors, and artificial intelligence to map large portions of Atlantic
Canada’s ocean. Mr Shea will present the details about the OceanVision project, the role Kraken’s technology and people play, and the future developments relating to the project.

https://members.pegnl.ca/ (Same place where you record your PD hours and pay your annual fees). Under the events tab select the “January Luncheon” and pre-pay online
for the event and provide us with any dietary restrictions. If this is your first time using the new member portal please see the
instructions below.
To login to the PEGNL member portal system:
- Visit www.pegnl.ca
- Click Log-In at the top of the page
- If this is your first time logging in to the new system, you will be asked to reset your password. In this case click “Forgot
Password”. You will receive instructions via email. Follow the prompts to change your password.
- Input your username (your registration number) and your chosen password
You can still register non-members through your online account.
You can also reserve a seat by calling the PEGNL office (753-7714) and asking to be registered for the December Luncheon.
Please note limited space is available, so reserve early.
Deadline for reservations/cancellation is close of business, Thursday, February 20, 2019.
